Central and North West London (CNWL) Trust has almost 7,000 staff providing integrated healthcare to a third of London's population, Milton Keynes and areas beyond.

Camden Neurological and Stroke Service provides specialist neurological rehabilitation to people living in Camden. The team provides neuro rehabilitation for adults with any neurological diagnosis including, Stroke, Parkinson’s, MS, Huntington's, and brain injury in a range of community settings including their own homes, gyms, hospitals or clinics. The team works closely with social services and the voluntary sector to make sure that patients' long-term needs are met.


ABOUT THE ROLE

Our service helps to support patients transition from NHS inpatient support, in trying to be more physically active or exercising in home/community settings. This could involve offering support when increasing walking distance as well as offering motivational support, encouragement, and mentoring in a range of settings such as a local gym. A volunteer (with a personal trainer background) could help navigate around a gym and advice on how to use equipment, whilst also supporting to build up confidence.


COMMITMENT AND LOCATION

You will volunteer on a Thursday, 9am - 12pm and will be at various locations, depending on where the activity will take place.


KEY TASKS
  • Support service users with outdoor mobility
  • Provide support to service users with travelling to a local gym and in a gym setting
  • Provide motivational support and guidance with activities
  • Help with building confidence in being physically active

KEY TRAITS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • A personal trainer or health and fitness professional by background
  • Qualification and experience in Level 3 GP exercise referral/health
  • A keen interest in long-term neurological conditions
  • Encourage and motivate others to participate in physical activities
  • Reliability: to be someone we can rely on - consistent and dependable
  • Warm, empathetic, friendly, tolerant and considerate
  • Adaptable and willing to learn
  • A team player, being helpful, communicative, open, respectful and honest
  • The ability to work independently whilst staying within the role’s boundaries
